Tutoring & Mentorship
Tutoring is the solution for students who have not fully learned a school subject in the classroom. With a tutor by their side, students can fill the gaps in their learning and confidently prepare for their tests and exams. The tutors we provide will adapt their approach to suit each student’s specific needs and ensure they maximize their chances of scoring high grades.
Mentorship, on the other hand, is less about academic performance and more about the qualitative, subjective parts of school life—handling stress and anxiety, overcoming challenges, building social skills, and more. Mentors give students psychological support and career guidance based on their knowledge and experience.
A mentor plays the role of a counsellor and confidant whereas a tutor is more concerned with the student’s ability to learn a subject and pass an exam. Ideally, both would be available in schools, but the reality is different. We fill this void by providing tutors and mentors for students who don’t receive all the attention they need in school.
At Teaching Gurus, our goal is to help students achieve academic success while also growing as individuals.
We offer math tutoring sessions for students in grades 1 through 12. We will help your child with aspects of mathematics such as basic arithmetic, mental math, calculus, advanced functions, data management, and more. If he or she has trouble with any subject, reach out and we will see to it that they receive the support that they need.
Communication skills, like public speaking and writing, are important in both school and the workplace. Our tutors will help any student from grade 1 to 12 improve their presentation, verbal communication, critical reading, and writing skills.
Understanding the world around us is exciting, but can sometimes be confusing. Our tutors will help students form grade 1 to 12 to make sense of the concepts they are taught in school and to enjoy understanding scientific concepts.
Students in the Ontario province are required to pass Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) tests to mark certain milestones in their education. If your child is preparing for an upcoming EQAO test, they will greatly benefit from the assistance of our tutors. Your child will receive adequate tutoring in all key components of an EQAO test—reading, writing, and mathematics.
How Our Program Works
If you are wondering what the process of tutoring and mentorship is like, here is a quick rundown of how we work at Teaching Gurus.
When parents first reach out to us, we conduct a free assessment of their child’s needs and recommend the most suitable package. We plan individually for each student and tailor our services around what will work best for your child.
Once your child joins our tutoring and mentorship program, they will come to one of our locations either once, twice, or three times a week depending on the individualized plan that we will lay out.
Our tutors typically help students with their homework and prepare them for their exams. Your child will also have access to mentors who can provide them with counselling and guidance regarding their school life and career orientation. We are keen on providing someone student can always talk to and whom they can ask for advice.
We often conduct group sessions with a ratio of four students to one tutor. This allows students to socialize while still receiving the full attention they need as opposed to a classroom of 20+ students and one teacher.
That being said, students that require particular attention can have one-on-one tutoring sessions. Furthermore, we report to parents about their child’s progress once a month, and even offer to coach them to help them understand the current schooling system and the challenges their child might face.
Note that we do not have our own curriculum; we will follow the curriculum of the school your child attends. If you have any questions,
